Q: How much would it cost to replace a top on a 1979 Porsche 911 Targa?
The vinyl on my targa top is starting to rip where it folds and I was wondering it would cost to either get the vinyl re-upholstered or just replace the top?

A: you are looking at 600

Q: What is the best car wax for a silver 2000 Porsche 911 C2?
It’s not garaged so I need a durable wax. I would also prefer a wax that lasts a long time (so I don’t need to wax every other month). I live in California. Thanks!

A: If you haven’t waxed the car in a while you my want to use a cleaner wax and then a carnauba wax and finally a paint sealant, which will keep the car protected and looking like it was justed waxed over time. Mother,Meguiars,Zybol cleaner wax,and Wolfgang deep gloss sealant to name a few, it depends on how much you want to spend and how much time you will put in to it,The more time the better and longer it will look good.

Q: Where can I find info about a 1969 Porsche 911?
I have to write a one page paper about it. He didn’t say exactly what we write about it but he just said write about any care.

I don’t know too much on cars but I really like this care. Can you tell me or give me a link that talks about the 69 Porshe 911’s features, details etc.

A: There were 3 different Models of the 911 in 1969. This site might get you started in the right direction. Good luck =)

Q: Can I use a 4 wheel drive Porsche 911 in a Toronto winter?
I’m moving from Vancouver to Toronto and I would really like to use my 2005 Carrera 4 but even with winter tires I’m not sure whether it will be wise. If I have to sell it, what would you suggest as a good luxury car or SUV for the winter? I’m thinking perhaps a Cayenne or Range Rover but all sugestions would be great!

A: Land/Range Rovers are terrible vehicles.

cost “more” than a Porsche to repair.

in the Luxury class

Lexus RX & GX are Kings
Acura MDX is also great.

for a lower priced work horse Toyota 4Runner

the GX is smooth on the road but also able to tow and go off road if needed.

cayene is a race car and very expenisve best kept out of snow and mud.

BMW X5 is nice but that idrive is annoying unless your already familiar with it.

Q: How much does it really cost to own a Porsche 911 Carrera 4S in California? MSRP is…?
…$88,400. What other costs are there?

http://www.porsche.com/usa/models/911/911-carrera-4s/

I am trying to own one of these.
Just wondering what’s is in store for me (i.e. tax, license, title, insurance, maintenance, etc.).

A: I had a New Porsche in 2001 and it was great. It probably would not have been w/o a warranty as the hourly rate for the shop and getting parts for a Porsche would have me taking a 2nd mortgage out on my house!! If you’re thinking about a used one take it to a garage OTHER than where you’re thinking about buying it from and pay someone that knows Porsche inside and out. Don’t let the place you’re buying the car from tell you about that car. As you know they’ll tell you anything to get you to sign on the bottom line. If they don’t let you take it to somebody else I think that should tell you something!! Because of being over 50 yrs old my car insurance wasn’t to much difference on that kind of a car if I remember right. If you get a fairly new one you probably won’t have much to worry about and if you do get one you’re love it.

Q: What engine(other than a porsche one) would fit in a PORSCHE 911 model 1980 please?help!!?
I’m restoring a PORSCHE 911 car,model 1980 but I can’t afford a Porsche engine,what other engine could i use please?can somebody help me?thanks

A: Given the resources (ie, time and money), you can fit pretty much anything you want. The biggest issue you will face will be issues with weight distribution – the Porsche’s flat 6 is not that much lighter than other engines, but it’s weight does sit lower. Another engine that is lighter but has it’s weight higher will greatly upset the car’s ability to turn at even low speeds.

But all of that is beside the point… while buying the non-Porsche engine will be cheaper, you will spend many times over that amount in fabricating parts and modifying the chassis to fit the different engine. If cost is your main concern, buying a 2.7L 911 engine from a ‘74-77 911 would be the cheapest route (though a 3.0L that would be correct for a 1980 would be the best route, costing only a little more than the 2.7L, and still world’s cheaper than swapping in something else).

Edit – to correct the poster that thinks 911s didn’t always use flat sixes… since it was introduced and all versions since, the 911 has had a flat six engine. It has changed displacement, getting larger over time, and about 10 years ago now, changed from air cooled to water cooled. But all of these without exception have been flat sixes.

Q: What happens if you press the brake and acceleration pedal simultaneously in a tiptronic Porsche 911 997 mk1?
Essentially I am asking whether you can rev the engine without having to be in “P” or “N” mode.

A: Yes you can do this. It is done by drag racers. But it is extremely hard on the engine, brakes, transmission, and torque converter.
It allows for a sudden lurching acceleration, due to the kinetic energy flywheel effect of the transmission and torque converter.
But it rapidly generates heat and put components under much more stress then they are designed for.

Q: where can i find a Porsche 911 Turbo Cabriolet keyring or model to turn into a keyring?
if its a model then it needs to be matchbox car size.

thanks for your help. and it would be best if i can buy it in Australia.

A: Match Box makes die-cast metal models of the 911 Turbo Cabriolet. I don’t know of a keyring ready made like you’ve described.

Q: 1984 porsche 911-How do you manage the heater controls?I cant seem to get warm air from the vents, just cool?
I dont mean to be obtuse(no owners manual),but between the 3 levers on dash, cant seem to get warm air blowing for defrost,or thru vents,(just cool air )running car at idle.(2 ft of snow outside, car is in unheated garage. Thanks

A: Check the heater boxes, this car is aircooled, the fan that cools the engine also blows hot air to the front for heat.
get underneath the car and check them out, also check the hoses that connect them to the body and the control cables.
most older aircooled cars are known to have poor heat

Q: What problems am I likely to run into when I replace my 1974 Porsche 911 fuel tank?
I have jack stands. I have the gasket that the tank rests on. I am not sure how I am going to connect the new tank to the old port where you add gas to the tank. Any ideas?

A: I would look to replace any old hoses or lines something is bound to be rotted.

What are some features of this?

More Porsche 998 Speculation

Some time ago, we brought you this rendering of a futuristic 998, but according to Wikipedia, the Porsche 998 could be with us by 2009 and could feature an all-new 3.8 or 4L powerplant.

Even though Porsche has always said they’d never deviate from a rear engine layout, it’s rumoured that some of the Stuttgart engineers would love to see a mid-engined configuration.

The body of the 998 could be constructed using aluminium, and according to the speculation, the next GT2 and GT3 models could even be wearing optional carbon fibre wheels!

It sounds like a massive jump in development for a car that’s evolved so gradually over the past forty years, and could be 100 percent speculation, but it still makes for an interesting read.

Time will tell what’s fact and what’s fiction.

Q: How do i raise the antenna of my 1982 Porsche 911 SC Targa?
The antenna used to be up, and i lowered it manually when the car was on. When i pushed it a little bit, it went down on it’s own. Now my problem is figuring out how to get it back up. There must be a lever or button in the car that i have to push or pull. It doesn’t say anything in the owner’s manual. The radio doesn’t work without the antenna up. I can’t find the answer on google or yahoo search. Anyone know how?

A: The antenna is usually powered by either the blue or blue with white stripe wire from the radio. I can’t remember at the moment. It is either a bad wire, bad fuse, bum antenna or problematic radio. Power antennas don’t usually utilize an outside power switch, it should raise when the radio is turned on. Start by making sure there isn’t a fuse for the antenna and then check for power at the antenna motor. It is most likely a dirty connection or bad motor.

Q: I need some aftermarket sites for a Porsche 911 turbo.?
Im just looking for like some sites that have a variety of parts for a Porsche 911 tubo that contains brands like Techart and such. Main websites are really helpfull as I am looking for a site with a variety. Thanks.

A: I have discovered (I have a 911 Turbo.) that many sites advertise parts that, upon receipt, you’ll find do not come close to fitting your Porsche.

Furthermore, even though these sites “guarantee” proper fitment, they’ll not pay return freight, which in the case of inexpensive parts amounts to as much or more than the price of the parts.

I don’t recommend that you buy anything for your Porsche that you’ve not first had the chance to check for fitment on the actual car.
