Q: What is the better car, an Lancer Evo or Subaru WRX STi?
2003 Lancer Evo? or 2004 Subaru Wrx STi?
3 main points I would like covered in your answer…
Which one is more reliable? Which has better handling?
Which has more car for the money(which is a better deal for the amount of awesome-ness)
and also just give me some personal thoughts… thanks.
A: i have a friend that has a WRX STi, he’s had his for a few years, and he has had no problems with it. Im not sure about the Evo. The WRX STi has awesome handling…Im pretty sure the Evo has good handling as well…i think the WRX STi puts out more hp and torque than the Evo too…sorry i just dont have much info about the Evo lol. I drive a 04 Eclipse that im selling and a Neon SRT-4, which is pretty much a competitor of the Evo and WRX haha. But yeah, i would go with the WRX STi…the Evo just looks weird to me too>>>> goodluck
Q: How do you check gearbox and clutch in a 1996 Subaru Wrx Sti?
Im looking to buy a 1996 Impreza WRX STi done 115,000kms.
It is completely stock/standard.
What can I do to check the clutch and gearbox, as they are problems at this mileage.
Any other things to check before spending the $$$
A: Test drive, make sure the gear shift is not grinding at any point. Make sure the differential/gear box fluid is not dark brown (dark brown = something is burning/overheating badly).
The Clutch may need to adjust/replace at that kms, but if you can step half way to the clutch and shift without problems, the clutch may be still good as new.
Q: I have finally saved 30k!! =) Now i can get my Subaru Wrx or Subaru WRX Sti?? Which one?
I am only 17 years old, but after many hours of working and saving, i finally saved 30k to get my dream car. Which one should i get, a Subaru WRX or a Subaru STI?
I am defintely sure i want this car. I dont wanna save my money, i just want my dream car….=))
A: You should check with your parents’ insurance company before you decide to buy either one. Find out how much it’s going to affect their rates yearly. You can’t get your own insurance until you’re 18. And you can’t buy a car until you’re 18 since you can’t sign any legal documents until then. So your parents will have to buy it and insure it for you.
I commend you for saving up so much money at your age. Very few teens could do what you did. But spend it wisely. Check with your parents’ insurance. And be sure you can pay for the maintenance and upkeep too before you jump into a purchase.
One other thing, a car is a losing proposition. It takes a beating the moment you drive it off the lot. And it continues to lose value every three months after that. Within 3 years, your $30,000 investment will only be worth about $12,000. You’ve just thrown $18,000 away. Money you worked hard for.
If you were to invest that money in bonds, CD accounts or T-bills you’d have more than enough cash in a few short years to buy your new car and still have enough money left over to reinvest and make you well off by the time you’re 30. Just something to think about.
Q: What makes the very distinct sound of the Subaru WRX STi?
I have a VW Passat 2.0T but I love the sound of the the WRX STi and was wondering if it is the muffler or the turbo or what ever makes the unique sound of the STi.
A: To be more specific, the sound comes from the horizontally opposed 4 cylinder, or H-4, or pancake motor. The engine’s pistons are directionally opposed at 54 degrees. That is what gives the engine the loping sound, however it is also in addition to unequal length header piping to the turbo. If you put straight back headers on a Subaru with a 3″ back pipe you will notice it sounds more like a Honda…
Flat four + Unequal length headers = Rumble
Q: If price is not an issue, can one still find a 2007 subaru wrx sti sedan with no miles on it/brand new?
I am looking to buy a new car and i really want a 2007 wrx sti sedan, however, i want it brand new or no miles on it. Is that at all possible to find?
A: Once a car is sold it is technically used, regardless of miles. 2007 is a bit too old for a car lot to have and being sold as “new”. You will just have to be very diligent in your search for an extremely low mileage ‘07.
Good luck.
Q: How of you think The Subaru WRX STi is the most over rated Car in the world?
I think the Evo 9 is better hands down.
Besides Subaru cheated and made it a 2.5 litre.
Thats not rally specs.
A: I LOVE my EVO 8 MR and I eat sti’s for breakfast… and they run slower in the 1/4 mile by almost a second and a half and run slower in a 6 turn course by almost 2 minutes.. they where compared on car and drive and the evo 8 and 9 won hands down
Q: What type of performance modifications should I get for my Subaru WRX STI?
Also what is the price for the modifications?
I’m planning on getting a 2003-05 STI.
A: Cobb AP or Tactrix cableand open ECU flash to stage 1. TBE, gutted or after market UP, flash to stage 2. RAI or CAI then get a protune.
AP: 400+ used and unmarried
or Tactrix cable: 100 (you will need a laptop though)
For the rest it varies quite a bit anywhere from cheap ebay stuff, to expensive and hella expensive for quality like Cobb or actual SPT stuff.
Best thing to do is research though, the EJ20 doesn’t like to have random stuff thrown on without a tune or EM, and even if you did do a DP and CBE you won’t see much gain without a reflash anyways, difference between the two is like night and day.
Q: What is the difference between the Subaru Impreza WRX STI and the Subaru WRX STI SE?
I am extremely into cars and want to the the exact differences between these two. I am more into the special edition but it has a lower price than the STI. Thanks
A: The se is actually a Spec C and is a trimmed down STI. the Spec C came from the asian market and is much sought after. The main reason subaru added the Spec C is to reduce cost and weight. STI enthusiasts said the STI was getting too fancy so they got rid of the 6 cd changer for just a single cd, automatic climate control for manual climate, lighter 18” rims and no HIDs. It is 2 grand cheaper but still has the same 305 HP and 290 pounds of torque. Has the same engine and turbo but lighter weight and a bit faster and more of a true rally car.
Q: What are the killawats to the 02,03,05,06,07 subaru wrx sti?
i want to buy a wrx sti so i know which car is the fastest so i don’t need to buy performance parts later on?
A: Just look on edmunds.com or some similar site…
It’s pretty easy to do an internet search instead of asking, much faster too!!!
AND to just cut to the heart of your question, the 07 has the most power.
Q: Can i install a blow valve in a stock subaru wrx sti?
It’s a 2007 wrx sti.I already have installed injen intake(cold air), hks carbon ti exhaust, and high flow cats
A: Well the Sti already has a blow off valve So why would you want to intall another?/?
Yes you can replace it with After market one which will probably be of a lesser quality but It will not add any performance so why?? If your looking for the noise you can simply divert the air from recirculating to the intake, plug the intake and the vent the BOV to atmosphere.
Edit; Venting to atmosphere will not produce any loss of power or any change in the vehicles tune. The bov is only open when there is vacume after the buterflys and boost before them. (off throttle or durring spool depending how stiff the spring is.) durring this time the engine is either in F/C and not producing any power or it is just starting to spool in either case the recirculated pressure is in no way adding any kind of relevent pressure to the pre turbo intake track beacause the volume of air being realeased through the BOV is very small when compared to the size of the intake which is wide open to atmosphere via the air filter.
edit again; bypass valve is just another name for a BOV they are the same they both have preload spring and they both have a vacume port! and again Venting to atmospere should not affect tune because when its open you are off the gas which means the ECU is in fuel cut! and even if it wasn’t it doesn’t matter because the bypass valve just recirc’s the air back into the pre-turbo intake which is not sealed to atmosphere it does not in anyway pressurize the pre turbo intake.
Q: How can you tell if a Subaru WRX STI is really a WRX STI?
My boyfriend has bought an early Scoobie – finally realising a long-held ambition, we thought! A mechanic has told him it’s not a real STI as they all have red manifolds. This car hasn’t BUT it is an early model. Anyone know how else to tell if it’s real please?
A: The easiest way is to run a check on the VIN through http://www.carfax.com/cfm/general_check.cfm?partner=OCF_1&CMP=KNC-Overture&ysmwa=Ml2OCB7mtRYvXdKxNKuqhqsdlYEY6eCDbYasInfDakYEJQSEHRHgXSALx9CR-t1U
There is no fee for this it will give you the specs of the car. The STI was available in N. America from 2003 to present. It has a hood scope for the intercooler and a really big spoiler on the back plus it has STI decals and lether wrapperd steering wheel and a six speed manual transmission.
Q: I own an 07 Subaru WRX STI. What is a good company to use when i start to modify it?? ?
Companies on the west coast. I live in Las Vegas.
A: I envy you…lol. Back to the answer. There are many good companies’ products you can use to modify your STI, eg:
Cobb: For your exhaust and ‘tuning’ needs
Perrin, Whiteline: Suspension aspects
Hella: For exterior stuff/ lighting
Defi: For your gauge needs
Kart boy: Short shifters, interior decoration
Borla: Exhausts performance
These are just a few example reputable companies. You can also look around WRX/ STI forums if you’d like to see a product’s quality and feedback. Try looking up Nasioc, WRXmodders, IWSTI, Clubwrx.
Hope that helps.
Edit: Okay, didn’t read that you were west coast. Cobb is west coast (utah), so is perrin, kartboy and Borla (CA).
Q: Is it a bad idea to buy a used Subaru WrX Sti?
I want to trade my ‘98 Impreza outback sport in for an sti. i cant afford a new one so i was thinking used. My ex said its an awful idea because of the turbo being beat on by the previous owner. is he right? or are there other factors to consider?
A: He is right.
But, turbo’s usually last 60,000 miles anyways. And Subaru’s are very reliable cars.
To take care of a turbo, wait 45 seconds before turning the car off to let the turbo cool down.
Use Premium gas only. That is required.
Used the recommended oil for the car.
Turbo’s cost anywhere from $1000-2000 to replace.
Or $200-400 to rebuild/refurbish.
Q: How do I make my Subaru WRX STi cheaply faster and at what cost total?
Any certain brands (with prices would be nice) that could put on this car to make it faster
A: Subaru has done a great job of engineering your car. There is nothing you can do “cheaply” to make it faster. Any upgrade worth the time and money will be costly and requires a very knowledgeable hand, which may well be costlier than the pieces parts.
What do you mean by “faster?” If you’re looking for straight line acceleration, sell the great car you’ve got and buy an overdone engine on wheels. Then you’ll have no need to worry about suspension, brakes, etc. If you wanted a “dragster,” why did you buy a real automobile?
If you’re looking for capability on a road course, a track, please tell us how much experience you’ve got. Unless you’ve got a lot, you’re probably unable to drive anywhere near the limits of your STI. For a lot less money than turning your car into a big, dumb engine, you can work on the weak link in the system — you. Get out and run in autocrosses, HPDE (High Performance Driver Education events), etc. Instruction is often included in these for free or little money. If you can drive your STI at its limits on a road course, then it’s time to think of modifying the car.
Q: what does STI mean in subaru wrx STI?
hello guys. i was thinking about buying a car.the car is a 2005 subaru impreza wrx awd.ther is also a subaru impreza wrx STI. can someone tell me what STI means?also am i allowed to dirve the STI model on my Provisional 1 license.thats is my red P’s of course.thank you in advance.
A: Subaru Tecnica International is what STI stands for. The STI is Subaru’s line for high performance equipment in the car. The WRX and WRX sti are much different due to the STI having more performance parts that the dealer could go over with. Different suspension, tires, brakes, and a whole lot more. All Subarus will also be awd. Good luck. You should be able to drive the car because it is within the same class. You will probably have to know how drive a stick shift though (manual).
